Smoky Passage
Collection: Where Color Takes Root
Size: 20 x 20 in
Description:
Smoky Passage is a layered fabric collage capturing a winding stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where a stone archway carries the road beneath a hillside of autumn color. Hand-cut and hand-dyed fabrics build up the layered mountain ridgelines, the hazy blue distance the Smokies are named for, and a foreground thick with fall foliage in deep reds, oranges, and golds. A black bear and a small fox move quietly along the roadside, with an owl tucked into the pines above — a reminder that this landscape is alive even in its quietest corners.
Every element of the scene, from the stacked stone of the archway to the needles of the pines, is built from individually cut and layered fabric, giving the piece real texture and depth rather than a flat printed image. Czech beads and Swarovski crystals are worked into the piece as subtle points of light throughout the foliage and stonework, catching the eye without overwhelming the scene. The piece is finished in Robyn's signature black floating frame, letting the raw, layered edges of the fabric collage read as part of the art itself.
Smoky Passage is a quieter kind of landscape piece — less about the view from an overlook and more about the feeling of being just off the road, where the mountain is close enough to touch. It's well suited to a space that calls for scale and warmth: a living room focal wall, a cabin or mountain home, or anywhere you want a piece that rewards a long look.
